Default Please rate my PC for possible GW2 system requirements.

I know they have not officially revealed system requirements for GW2 yet, but after watching videos on the site, I wanted some opinions about my system. I know in advance that it is not that great, but what I do have I have optimized as far as it will go without getting a new power supply and such, thank you.

Its on Windows Vista 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 4200+
Nvidia GEForce 8600GT Video Card
2GB DDR2 Dual Channel RAM

Like I said, I have everything I can in my computer, it has the highest RAM and video card that I can for the power supply, I am not looking to be able to run this on highest settings and some people may laugh at the low capability, I would like to run it at modest settings, thank you in advance.

your processor will be the weakest link, the video card and ram are the "estimated" (and by no means official) minimum requirement for the game, although it will depend on your resolution.

Would this one be any good? If I added my 8600 GT to it?

You could try for a RAM, PSU and GPU upgrade vs the emachine idea. I don't *think* you should worry too much about your CPU, even so AMD CPU upgrades are cheap as well.

They have said it will run on a mid range system I am assuming mid range is mid range upon release rather than current mid range but who knows for sure.

I have the same Video card as you and it uses system memory so that could be a problem Its certainly the weakest link on my system.

The 8600 gt has 256 of its own memory then draws what it need from your 2 meg system it has a limit of 1 gig so could in theory draw some 750 more.

I would save the pennies till more information is available, I intend to buy it run it then see if I need more performance.

My system
Intel q6600 quad core 2.4
8600gt
4 gig memory

Windows vista 32 bit
"this operating system limits available memory to 3 gig so 1 of mine is wasted"
Thanks Microsoft another winner.

They said that if you can run the current guild wars on max detail, you should at least be able to run gw2 on low

maybe try that?

It should run on low-medium settings quite smoothly from what I can tell of the graphics and based on arenanets past optimization. Your setup isn't ideal, but it will be playable. You'll want anti aliasing off, postprocessing off, and shadows turned down for sure.

If you would let up on the resolution, you would have a better playing experience too. Resolution makes a HUGE difference. I suggest you play in windowed mode.

This is just an educated guess of course.

Also remember that Vista takes up a lot more resources than Windows 7.

It wouldn't be a whole lot better than what you have.

I think either system will struggle to play GW2 with an 8600GT at 1920x1080. But it may work at low graphics settings.

That thread has the best advise I've seen for building your own top-of-the-line desktop for the cheapest possible price. The Graphics card is a little bit old and will probably struggle to play at a resolution as high as 1920x1080. With low graphics settings you'll probably be okay but 2g of RAM is kind of on the low side. I like to run at least 4g of RAM on a laptop and up to 16g of RAM on a desktop (depending on what I plan to use it for). I'd also consider upgrading to Windows 7 (64 bit). Win7 is a much more streamlined OS than vista and will not use as many processor resources.

At that resolution the gpu is his weakest link.

yeah. But I'd keep the computer as is, and upgrade if it is required. GW2 will play, not necessarily great, but in the off chance that it's good enough for you, you'd save quite a lot of cash. And by the time GW2 comes out, you'll have better choices available (new and second hand), not to mention more money if you start saving now.

Unless of course you want to upgrade now for other things. But since the game isn't out yet, I think it's pointless to speculate. My guess is, it will play on minimum - medium settings.

I would advise saving up some money and building a new system. A low end quad core at 3Ghz (or better) with at least 4GB RAM, a video card at least as good as a Geforce 450 or Radion 5770 and a 64bit OS should be able to play GW2 with little problem (if it is release this year).

My specs are:
CPU: Intel core 2 duo 6600 @ 2.4 GHz
Ram: 2 Gigs
GPU: Geforce 8800 GT
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Monitor: 19" Samsung

Any upgrades for Guildwars 2 i am thinking about upgrading my Ram to 4 gigs but not sure about the rest.

I would suggest upping the RAM in any case, since Win 7 takes close to 2GB to run smoothly, leaving precious little for games or other applications.
Your CPU is fine, although you could OC it to 3 GHZ pretty easily with a decent cooler.
Your GPU will play GW2 at that resolution (1440 x 900 I'm guessing?) but you probably won't be able to max it out at the highest settings; it should still be a pretty good experience at medium settings though.

Not a bad system there though I would lose the windows vista and if possible add another 1gb of ram.

Keep in mind performance doesn't come from just hardware. Having latest drivers, a defragmented hard disk and registry and unneeded software running during the game can make a huge difference.

Also check your temperatures, high temperatures promote low performance aswell so make sure to clean it from time to time.
